OUR Mission Statement:
At Compassionate Voices CIC, we’re on a heartfelt mission to be the bridge to a brighter, more fulfilled life for women and girls. Since our founding in July 2019, we’ve been dedicated to creating impactful, unique journalling workshops, events, and activities that truly resonate with our community. With a growing online presence, we keep everyone connected and informed about our latest endeavours.
Compassion isn’t just a word to us; it’s a guiding principle that extends to animals and our planet’s welfare.
The Package
Since January 2020, the Compassionate Voices package has grown stronger, shaped by the invaluable feedback from our workshop attendees and members. By continuously building partnerships, we’ve expanded our offerings to provide a diverse range of activities.
We offer a distinctive package for women and girls facing challenges such as low self-esteem, mental health issues, isolation, illness, financial struggles, domestic violence, bullying, body image concerns, menopause, and redundancy. Our inclusive approach ensures that women and girls of all ages and ethnicities, particularly those from deprived areas, benefit from our workshops and activities.
From January 2020 to the end of 2024, we’ve delivered over 60 “The Power of YOU” workshops, transforming the lives of countless women.
COVID
For two years, we hosted online activities to ensure that no one in our community felt isolated. During the pandemic, we kept our Zoom doors open, even on Christmas Day and bank holidays. As lockdowns eased, our in-person Step Out activities took off, starting with “The Power of YOU” Workshop. We’ve partnered with organisations like DAAS (Derbyshire Addiction Advisory Services), Caron Kirkham Training & Coaching and Dancing for Health to deliver a mix of social and learning events.
Our online events continue to flourish, with monthly activities such as ‘Open Mic’ night, the Compassionate Voices Art group, Coffee & Chats, Face Yoga, and Tapping sessions (EFT).
EXCITING ADVENTURES AHEAD:
In 2024, with funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, we organised trips to iconic locations such as The Beatles Museum in Liverpool, Shakespeare’s home in Stratford-upon-Avon, and Chatsworth House and this year .
This year, we’re thrilled to announce our first Compassionate Voices Collaborative Speak Out event in July! This is more than just an event; it’s a joyous celebration of our amazing community and the incredible talents and uniqueness of each woman and girl.
Prepare to be inspired as our members share their stories through verse, music, and art. Whether it’s a heartfelt poem, a soul-stirring song, or a captivating piece of art, this event promises to be a showcase of creativity and resilience.
Members are encouraged to attend our fortnightly planning and rehearsal meetings starting in March. It’s a wonderful opportunity to connect, collaborate, and ensure that our event is nothing short of spectacular!
Join us in celebrating the power of compassionate voices. Let’s come together, support each other, and make this event an unforgettable experience for everyone involved.
COMMUNITY IMPACT:
In our first year, we successfully organised and hosted two parties for vulnerable children in the Derbyshire community, thanks to the support of local businesses like Tesco, Swizzels, and Peak FM Radio.
Since our founding, we’ve been fortunate to receive grants from various organisations, including Foundation Derbyshire, Derbyshire County Council, Derbyshire Voluntary Action, The Coronavirus Community Fund, The National Lottery Community Fund, and Nottinghamshire County Council. Our projects have received significant support from Children in Need, The National Lottery Heritage Fund, and The National Lottery Community Fund
More recently we have been funded by Derbyshire Police and Crime Commissioner’s Safer and Stronger Communities Fund.

A Legacy of Compassion: My Fundraising Journey
As the founder of Compassionate Voices CIC, I am thrilled to share some highlights of my fundraising history with you.
November 1999: The Beginning of a Passion In November 1999, I organised my very first charity event, raising funds for the NSPCC. Glenn Tilbrook, the lead singer from the band Squeeze, graciously agreed to do a solo acoustic gig in between the band’s tour dates supporting Blondie. Together, we raised a significant amount of money for the children’s charity, marking the start of my fundraising journey.
Honouring My Father’s Memory (2003 – 2006) Shortly after my father’s passing in 2003, I found solace in organising more fundraising events. The decision was two-fold: to help me overcome the pain of losing him and to follow in his footsteps by raising money for worthy causes. On 12th May 2005, with the help of dedicated volunteers, we held the first of two very successful celebrity golf days, raising over £8,000 for the NSPCC. The second event in 2006 was held in memory of my dad. These events solidified my commitment to making a difference.
Continued Success and Impact Buoyed by the success of the golf days, I, along with the unwavering support of volunteers, organised three more events. In total, we raised an impressive £20,000 for disadvantaged children. Each event was a testament to the power of community and the impact we can make when we come together for a common cause.
